About Big Time Trivia

Big Time Trivia quiz design and development
We build quizzes that occasionally tell you something you didn’t want to hear.

The Short Version

Big Time Trivia is a personality quiz site. We publish quizzes across three categories: personality typing (MBTI-style), fictional character archetypes (Game of Thrones, specifically), and relationship psychology (love languages). The goal is to give people something genuinely useful, not just something entertaining to share. The site is operated by Mission Marketing Group LLC, based in Sacramento, California.

We started this because most personality quizzes online are bad in one of two ways. Either they're built purely for virality and tell you whatever is most likely to make you share the result, or they're so clinically written that most people bounce halfway through. We wanted something in the middle: quizzes that are actually fun to take and occasionally tell you something you didn't already know. That's a higher bar than it sounds.

What We Actually Think We're Doing

We're not replacing clinical psychology. Nobody here is diagnosing anyone. What we're doing is taking well-researched frameworks, Myers-Briggs personality types, Gary Chapman's five love languages, narrative character archetypes, and presenting them in a format that prompts genuine reflection rather than just generating a shareable image.

Self-knowledge has real practical value. Knowing your personality type helps you evaluate career decisions and relationship dynamics with more clarity. Knowing your love language can shift a frustrating pattern from feeling personal to feeling solvable. Recognizing which fictional archetype you resemble can surface patterns in your behavior that are easier to see through a story than through a self-assessment. None of these quizzes will tell you everything about yourself. But each one reveals something specific. That's the deal.

How the Quizzes Are Built

We use scenario-based questions rather than the classic agree/disagree format. The reason is simple: when you ask someone "I am organized," most people answer in the direction of how they want to be seen. When you put them in an actual situation, "It's Thursday evening and you have an unstructured weekend ahead. What do you do?", the answer is much harder to game and usually more accurate.

Each answer maps to one of the possible outcomes for that quiz. Responses are tallied across all questions and the outcome with the most points becomes your result. For MBTI quizzes, answers map to the four dimensions (E/I, S/N, T/F, J/P) and the dominant side on each one determines your four-letter type. For love language and character quizzes, answers map directly to outcomes.

The most common failure mode in personality quizzes is that every question probes the same obvious distinction, so the result is basically predictable after the second question. We try to probe subtler things: not just what you prefer, but what you do when that preference is in direct conflict with something else you value. Those are the questions that actually split people.

Three Lengths, One Reason

Every quiz topic we offer comes in three lengths: 5, 10, and 20 questions. A 5-question quiz and a 20-question quiz on the same topic produce meaningfully different levels of granularity. The shorter version is good for a quick orientation. The 20-question version is built for when you're close to the borderline on one or more dimensions and want a more accurate read. Most people start with the shorter version and then take the longer one when they're not quite sure about their result. That's exactly what the longer version is for.

We also put real editorial content on every quiz and results page. Background on each framework, the practical applications, the actual limitations. MBTI has real research support and real critics. Love languages are clinically useful and not academically pristine. Character archetypes are grounded in narrative psychology and are not clinical instruments. We say all of this on the site because a result is most useful when you know exactly how seriously to take it. We're not trying to oversell anything.

The Honest Version of Our Philosophy

Entertainment and genuine insight are not in conflict. A quiz can be genuinely fun and still surface something true. A character comparison can make you laugh and still prompt real self-reflection. We try to hold both: accessible enough that people actually finish it, substantive enough that finishing it was worth their time.

Personality types are starting points. Love languages are patterns. Character archetypes are mirrors. None of them are verdicts. Every result page on this site tries to make that clear, because we think honesty about what a framework can and can't tell you is part of what makes a result actually trustworthy rather than just satisfying.
